Gofer trouble

For a couple of weeks I have had a creature digging holes in my front yard.  I finally got a look at what it is that is a GOFER.
He is eating my grass.  He already killed some of the bushes in the front yard.

I posted his picture to my Facebook page asking for advice on how to get rid of it.
These are some of the responses.
  • Caddyshack him!!
  • Flame thrower!!
  • Poison peanuts at the local farm/feed store!
  • Chemical warfare!
  • Claymore mine!
  • .22!
  • Drown him out with a hose!
  • Post more pictures maybe he will get offended and go away!
  • They make traps that shoot spikes down into the hole that will run him through as he runs by!
  • Rodent Blaster!
  • C4!
  • This last one has a step by step instructions:

          1. Go to Redbox
          2. Rent Caddyshack
          3. Watch and learn
          4. Initiate knowledge
          5. Funeral

He is cute but has to go.

What I did to myself this weekend

I was very ambitious this weekend.  It was a beautiful Sat in March so I started pruning some trees in the front yard.  Unfortunately I hit my face with the pruner.

It looks worse than it is.  I am sore but I am fine.

This tree needed pruning bad.

Lots of branches came off this tree.

I made four piles of twined branches from the two trees I pruned.

So while pruning is important to the trees.  Using your face to do it is not.
This coming Saturday I will be doing the trees on the other side of the house.  I will not be repeating the same mistake twice.

Happy pruning

Magnetic family sign

I was looking for something to make for a valentine decoration at Michael's, and I found this fun corrugated metal sign piece. It was on sale of course.

Micheal's also had these new magnetic letters to go on it.  I put all the first initials for my family on it and the two words. Micheal's was putting out all kinds of Letters in various sizes and materials which of course not on sale but I thought that these letters were just too cool.
The kids and rearrange them and I could take them off and use the sign for some thing else.

Balloons and kids

Last night was Kids eat free at the pizza joint we went too.  So the three younger kids were free and the balloon guy made them cool balloon hats, animals and swords.
This is the best dragon hat I ever saw.
My little pony for the youngest.
I am not sure what to call this hat.  It is cool none the less.
And last but not least the Sword.
Love Monday Night Free Kid nights.

Grill time cake-I wish I made this!

Last night we went to the blue and gold dinner for my son.  I saw this cake at the dinner.  I was impressed by the creativity.  I looks so real.  The cakes where a father son project.  They all looked great but this by far was the best.

The hamburgers are made of Coco Krispies treats with a dash of Nutella to take the white out of the marshmallow's.

The hot dogs where made of Tootsie rolls and red Starbursts one for one ratio, kneeded together.
The cheese is yellow starbursts.  Then piping gel for the lines.  It was made of in a 16" round chocolate cake.  Is this not the coolest you ever saw.  Makes me hunger right now.

the sad fact about moving

The Sad fact about moving.  My house has never looked this clean.  I hate that about my house.  My room has never had this much floor space showing.  I usually have boxes of military stuff lined up by the wall on the floor.

The boys room even when they clean it does not look this good.

The girls room looks like this for only five minutes.  My two year old has messed up the closet before I am even done cleaning but I can close that.

The Teenager is not giving me too much problems with keeping his side of the room clean either.

I am still working on my husbands desk and the kitchen counters.  But I am almost done.  I am so proud of myself.

Moving again need advice

I will not be doing much in the craft department.  We are getting ready to move and my craft room won't cut the mustard for trying to sell this house.  So I started boxing up my Craft/Sewing stuff to make the room look better.  As you can see it will take a long time.  I have lots of stuff packed in this 10 x 10 room.  That means aside from basic sewing,  I will be bored because I wont be able to craft.  I will try to keep up with other stuff on my blog.  But if you don't hear much from me please be patient with me.

So if any one has advice on how to keep my house show quality with little kids who mess up what you have just cleaned five minutes or while you are still cleaning please let me know.  I know the tricks are out there lay it on me.  Please!!!!!

Yesterday I got the best birthday present of all time.

Yesterday was my birthday.  I had a wonderful day.  My thoughtful husband took me the 91 miles to Houston for the best quilt festival ever.  The Houston International Quilt Festival.  Wow.  I saw some great, great stuff.  I ran into someone who knows my mother from when she lived in North Carolina.  She has some great stuff.  Go check out her web site at Hissyfitz designs.  She has the cutest quilt called Cutie Patootie  my mom tested the pattern for this quilt.  My youngest daughter sleeps with this blanket every night.  While walking through the booths I saw this quilt on the wall and was really excited to meet the lady who designed it.
I also visited the ladies over at Craftsy.  They were great too.  We walked till my legs hurt.  I saw great stuff.
We walked through the gallery and wow.  I took only few pictures.  I should have taken more.  I was so tired last night I slept like a baby.
I want to share two quilts with you.  The first one is amazing.  It won some big prize I forget which one but wow the detail was phenomenal.  I have always admired thread painting.  I have only tried it once.
Sorry these two pictures are not right side up.  I am having a problem with my computer.  In the second picture, you can see the stitching on the boy.  The quilt is said to have over 4 million stitches.  It was awesome in person.  I don't know that the picture does it Justice.

I thought this one was so whimsical that I just had to have a picture.  It also has a lot of thread painting in it.   All in all I had the best birthday ever.  Thanks honey.  Love you.

no pumpkins on my pumpkin vine and a midnight guest

To start these little creatures live around our house.  I found these at midnight on the wall by my front door.  I found four. I made my family crazy yesterday when I told them that a smaller lizard ran under my bed.  They do not believe me but no joke I have one in my room.  I am not sure how it go in there but well it is there none the less.

And here is the updated pictures of my pumpkin plants.  I am not seeing any pumpkins yet.  but you can tell it is getting bigger.

Well I have to say I had a better picture of this but when  I went to turn it clockwise it hid the picture and now I can see it in the slide show, but I can not edit or use it.  This really sucks.  I also had a good picture of the fourth lizard on a different wall last night it is also hidden.  Does anyone know how to get it back?  I can't figure it out.

So what are ya doing?  "Just hanging around."  That is what I can imagine they are saying to each other.

Can you have a hummingbird as a pet?

Out side we have a hummingbird feeder and just in the last few days we have had a lot of activity.

This guy is one of three birds that come to this feeder. He is the most protective bird I have ever seen.  He chases off other hummingbirds and sits on the tree and watches.  It is funny to watch.  I can stand outside and they will still come and visit the feeder.  They will dive past you which is fun to watch.  Nobody has been hit yet but they are really fast.  I wish we could keep them. Oh well.  I have a better picture on video of him.  I can't figure out how to get the video to work.  so you are stuck with this picture.

It is summer and my blooms are all gone !

The summer is here in TX and my flowers seem to be disappearing. I took these pictures in May.  I have one still in bloom but all the rest are not.  Do they only make one flower.
That really sucks.  I posted these because I am jealous of the blogs that I looked at today and yesterday that have beautiful flowers in there garden.  Go checkout  http://justanotherhangup.blogspot.com/2011/06/bloomin-tuesday.html and http://cvquiltworks.blogspot.com/2011/06/beautiful-day-in-my-garden.html .

I liked this group shot. Red, White & Blue. Summer comes too fast here.
I think this picture is upside down. oops!

Beauty among thorns

In my neighbors rose bush we found this nest with robin eggs.
I had to run home and get my camera.  I thought is was so cool to find something so beautiful living in a rose bush.  I know roses are beautiful.  But the thorns you would think would keep out anything right?  Well guess again.

A few days later however when I went back to see the progress.  The nest was empty.  I guess we bothered the mom so she found a new home.  I felt fortunate to get these great pictures before mommy bird left for a new home.

My girls at the Children's barnyard at Texas A & M University.
On the tractor.

Holding baby chicks.  You cant hear it but the chick is peeping so loud.  She has a good grip. She would not let it go.
The girls had a great time.
