Maleficent horns

It is costume time again. My daughter wants to be Maleficent.  I made these horns out of card board.

I used black Duck Tape to make the head piece.  I love that you can make almost anything out of Duck tape.

I still need to make it so it will stay on her head.  I figure grommets, Velcro and  ribbon should do the trick.

But I came home yesterday with feather wings and a black wedding dress costume for her to finish the look and she said, "I like the dress maybe I will just wear the dress".  Kids!  

Maybe if I make a cool staff she will wear the whole costume.

Christmas Holiday Toy soldier costume

One of my friends from church, has a son that will be in the school holiday play.  He is to play a simple toy soldier.  She does not sew and asked me to help make the costume for him.  I was happy to do it.  I love sewing. 

She brought me the supplies yesterday and it was done soon after.  I took pictures just incase anyone else has to make a toy soldier costume for there child.  So hope you can find the rest of this post helpful. 

 It only takes these supplies and a red shirt.

I sandwiched three layers together to get the appellate.  fabric on either side of temtex.  Then satin stitch all the way around.

After I satin stitched all the way around the appellate you are ready for the trim.

 Sewing the trim on these are done by zig zag stitch that way it will move easily in to the position you would like.  So after you sew them you can lay them down at a 90 degree angle.

I satin stitched the applets to the shoulder about l 3/4 inch from the top.

Next I cut three 6 inch ribbons, set them in the center about 4 inches apart. I then stitched them in place. I then took 12 1/2 inch looped ribbon and made these three loop things.  I am sorry I know that the real term for these are out there but I can not think of it.

 At this point sew on the loops to then end of the ribbons.

Add buttons to the center of the loops.

I had extra Master Sergeant stripes so I add them for effect.

This plain shirt is transformed.  It only took an hour and half.  That was awesome.  And she loved it.

Did everyone get free meals at Chick-fil-a today.  We did don't we look cute.

GIANT ONSIE COSTUME

Giant onsie costume for 17 year old son.  Go figure he wants to wear for Halloween but not for the picture on by blog. 

I found this fabric on the dollar walmart shelf.  I love that it was black and white stripes.  He is 17 he is always getting into trouble. I thought about saying jail baby on the bib but I'm Trouble worked out just great.  I am sorry I didn't take pictures of the process.  I just folded one of his shirts in half and laid it on the fold of the fabric twice on for front and back.  I left the back piece really long and then when he tried it on I know how long to make the flap.  for the front I just made it about 10 inched longer then the original shirt that I used.  sewing the two side was the easy part.   I just had to match the stripes before I cut it out then they matched easy to sew. It was so easy.  and when he puts it on well you get the picture.

Ghosts are so spooky

Ghost costume for my son.  I found this fabric at walmart for $1 a yard.  It is has a see through and torn look.    It is cool for a ghost.  anyway after about 7 yards at $7 the pattern #2486 at joanns for $.99 love simplicity sales. It is pretty cheep.  This costume took 7 hours from cut to end.  It took longer then most because the pattern is for adult and teens and he is 7 so I had to make it smaller.  It worked out perfect and he loves it and I am very happy how it turned out.

Sleeping Beauty Costume

This is my baby.  See does not cooperate when taking a pictures.

 She is very cute though.  I made this costume for her.  She is sleeping beauty.

Finally a smile. 

It took at least 25 pictures.  And I have to say my camera sucks.  Or it is the photographer I don't know. But It takes a lot of monkeying to get it to work.  Either it is blurry or yellow.  I hate it.

Winifred Sanderson costume

My daughter watches "Hocus Pocus" movie year around and so this year she didn't want to be a princess as the last couple of years.  She wanted to be Winifred Sanderson.  I bought Simplicity costume #3595.  Hat from Walmart. Broom from Halloween store. I know it dosen't look like Winifred but she is four. A witch costume is a costume to a four year old.  The thing that makes it Winifred is she says its Winifred.  I am ok with that.  I think she look great.

Funny Face Kid

  Finally finished Emma's costume tonight.  she is cinderella.  love the purple pjs underneath.

I left that last parts of her costume until today so she wouldn't drive me crazy about wearing this.  It will be fun dress up later.

Lady bug family halloween costume tutorial

This year I have made lady bug costumes for my new baby girl Kira and myself and my husband.  Here is how I made them.

 First I bought a yard of Red and a 1/4 yard of black felt.  I folded the red in half.  cut a large oval.  Should make 2 adult size wings times 4.

Then I traced circle from a lid a to make a template. 

Cut as many black circles as I wanted to put on the wings.  I pined them on to one side of the wing.

Then with a satin stitch on my sewing machine I sewed around all the circles.

With right sides together i sewed all around the wing leaving a opening at the bottom for turning.

Turning the wing right side out I then added two large button holes at the top about where your shoulders are.

I then added stuffing and closed the bottom.

Sew buttons on the back of your black shirt.  You can remove them later if you wear the shirt after halloween.  Don't forget to save the buttons.

Easy as pie.  Cute huh!  For the baby I just made it smaller.  To finish off the costume wear black pants and shirt.  For my husband I just added a red tie.  For me and Kira I made tutu's.  For the babys tutu I used the "Fancy filled sewn tutu" pattern I found at http://www.youcanmakethis.com/info/featured-products/Fancy-Filled-Tutu-BONUS-40-tutu-recipes-too.htm This  pattern is free until Oct 31.  It is really easy.
I made a tutu for me I made up my own pattern I used way to much tule and wow it makes me look big oh well.  The lady at Joanne Fabric thought I was crazy when I asked for 10 yards of black and 20 yards of red. 
So this year my husband, Kira  and I are going as lady bug family.
