Wood pumpkin

I have been going crazy making fall pumpkins.  This one is so easy.  I just painted the wood, glued the picks to the back, put a picture hanger on the back and its done.
Happy Fall!

reclaimed wood patriotic sign

I made Texas Flag from reclaimed wood.  I had one piece left so I made a simple flag piece.  My daughter wanted to help.

I dry brushed blue around a flag that I placed inside the small box made from the tape.  Sorry I did not take a picture of that.

Than I taped the center two inches and let my daughter dry brush red on both sides.

I than moved the tape to make the white strip.
She did such a good job.

DIY Old wood Texas Flag

I had a old grey piece of wood on the side of the house.  I turned it into a couple patriotic pieces. We love Texas in our house.  We lived in Texas for a few years so I made a the state flag.  It is really simple.
You will need 2 pieces of old wood cut to 20"
Red White and Blue craft paint
A paint brush good for dry brush painting
Wood glue
Large clamp
Painters tape
Star printed and cut out from card stalk

My two pieces of 20" wood

Glue the pieces together and then clamp them together until dry.

Place painters tape about 8" from the left side of your wood. Center card stalk star and dry brush in blue all around the star up to the painters tape.

I decided to not paint the star white and just left it.

I moved the painters tape over to the left covering over the blue line you just painted. Dry brush the top half with white.

It should look just like this.  You can put painters tape in the center to keep from painting on the bottom half or if you are really good just paint to the line that separates the two pieces of wood.

Now dry brush the red.

When you are finished it should look like this.  I then put hooks on the back to hang on the wall and you are done.

My Do-it-her-self project from Home Depot

I am a big fan of the Do-it-her-self nights at Home Depot. This is the project I made last night.
Its a beverage box.  Wine or whatever.  I don't drink Wine so I am using it for a craft box.t

 This is just an idea.
These project are fairly easy and you get to use power tools.
This time we used the Jig Saw.  I love these classes and can't wait for next month class.

Caskets for Halloween

Its that time of year again.  Time to make the outside and inside of my house spooky and cute at the same time.  As you can tell today I was working on caskets.

I saw this on pinterest and made my own.  You can find the project at  http://theladybirdblog.com/2012/10/25/diy-witches-goblins-and-ghouls-oh-my-chalkboard/

I might paint this or leave it I have not yet decided.

Next project is a new Halloween wreath.  My old one got messed up in the move.

Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeeeen!!!!

Rustic Decorative Pumpkin Stand

Have you ever been to a Home Depot Weekly Workshop?  I went tonight.  I made this Rustic Decorative Pumpkin Stand.  It was really cool.  I was lucky enough to make my own.  Usually they show you how to make one and you then go home and make your own.  I will paint this bad boy and then put it on the front porch next my my door with mums in it.

I took my husband to the class.  However He didn't stick around because the teacher lacked in basic safety.  She made it through the class but she didn't have a good working knowlege of the power equipment.  We also looked at the wrong cuting direction for the box and so I had to cut my pumpkin shorted about 2 1/2 inches.  The lady in this picture is not the teacher she is a fellow student. The end results came out ok and I am happy with my project.

If you ever have a chance to go one of the workshops take the opportunity.

Mason Jar Pencil holder teachers end of year gift

I needed to make something for three of my kids teachers. They needed a thankyou for all the hard work this year.  My kids have accually been in the same class for a entire year.  We usually start in one school but end in another.
This mason jar pencil holder is just so easy to make that I couldn't resist.

Mason Jar Bathroom organizer

From the scrap wood of my bottle cap flag project I made this Mason jar bathroom organizer.
at first I left the wood natural.  However, I didn't like it so I stained it with grey.  It looks much better.

The jars I got at Micheal in case anyone wanted to know.

What to do with the shoes that end up in a pile at the front door

Every day when my children come home the shoes come off and get piled up at the door.  I really hate this but the couch is on one side of the door and this wall is behind the door.  The closet is on the opposite side of the room.
So I looked on Pinterest and found this example of a shoe rack.

She uses pegs and I used hooks.  I liked the idea so I had to make my own.  Thanks Sawdustgirl.com

Proclamation to the world simplified

This is so awesome.  I made this at relief society Tuesday night.  It was really simple.  I am not sure were the proclamation paper came from. I could find out if anyone is interested. It would make a nice gift.  Happy Holidays.

Key holder

I saw a key holder online the other day and thought to my self I could really use this.  I am always looking around the house for my keys.  Some times I can't find them in my purse.  The purse is a bottomless pit.  I need a smaller one.  I am going to a family reunion in two weeks so I will scout out new material to make a new purse.

This project cost very little.  I bought the supplies at walmart.  I had the paint.  All I needed was the wood, stickers, hooks (which are push pins in the hardware dept.)  and a picture hanger for the back.  I was done in less than an hour.  The key was I painted outside on a hot day.  Was dry in 10 to 15 min.  The hardest part was pushing in the hooks.  I am a weakling.  LOL.   I can add more hooks if I need them.  I love how it turned out.  Sorry that I have just the one picture.  But I am sure you could figure it out.

Pumpkins, Vampire and Frankenstein OH my! popcycle characters

Pumpkin, Vampire and Frankenstein OH my! Popcycle characters.
I check regularly my most popular posts. That being said my second most popular posts is http://armywifequilter.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-100th-post-popcycle-stick-snowman.html.
I made popcycle stick snowmen with my kids last Christmas. I loved them and so did many of you. I have created Halloween popcycle stick characters. I have a tutorial for you, they are really easy to make by your self or with your kids. You will need:

Popcycle sticks
paint / paint brushes
super glue
buttons
Sticky back foam
wax paper for the mess
permant marker
Glue the sticks together.

Mark and pain the different sections of your character.

Frank painted.

Vampire painted.  The bottom is dark purple but you can't really see that in the picture.

Painted pumpkin. Glue on buttons and sticky backed foam.

Your done.  See that was easy.  I hope you enjoy making them.  If you do.  Come back and post a comment with the link.  I would love to see all the variations that your creative minds come up with.

I made a storage box

I made this box.  With the help of my husband.  A blog that I visited last month made one like this from a pottery barn utensil box that she had seen.  I really liked it.  I made it bigger than she did.  I loved the patterns of the wood.  So I stained it to bring out the pattern.

See the inside wood pattern.  It is really cool.

This is the finished product.  I really wish that It could show you all the cool knots and patterns of the wood.  It is really cool.
Now I just have to put a foam pad on the bottom.  I have two nails that are sticking out just enough that it would scratch the surface of what ever I put it on.  After finishing this project I informed my husband I want a scroll saw.  He just laughed. Then he took me over to Lowes and we look at scroll saws so we can get a feel for what I want to buy.  I am thinking Christmas is the time to buy.  Prices are low right?  I am not sure I can wait for fathers day.

new shelves for my small stock pile

My kids think I am crazy because I never leave the house with out my "coupon binder".  I have gotten so many "coupon scores" that I have run out of places to put them.   So I have started a stock pile, or as some of you might know it as a Year supply or food storage.  I needed more shelves in my closet.  I did these two shelves all by my self.  I am so proud of my self.

After I put in the support then I filled the shelves with my stuff that I got for free or less than a dollar.

I need to count my tooth paste It looks like a lot.

I love free deodorant.

This is my food stock pile up stairs in the boys closet.

I don't have pictures of my laundry soap and the dish washing soap or the cereal.  sorry I didn't think of that until after I started this. I keep stuff all over the house.  Which reminds me my school supplies have quadrupled since my last post of them.  I didn't take pictures of that either.  Just take my word or it or not.

Super easy Bling hangers

I needed a place to put my necklaces. Cramming them in a box was just tangling them.  So I made these.  They were really easy. I bought a 24 X 2 board cut in half.  I painted one pink (that one was for the girls stuff) then sprayed with a clear coat paint.  Put the picture hangers on the back.  Then the cup hooks. Super easy right.

Now I was informed by my 4 year old that she needed stuff on ever hook.  Oops! I created a monster I think.

A ribbon rack for me

I wanted my own ribbon rack.  With my husbands help, this is how I did it.  First I bought a couple of boards from Lowe's.
I had them cut 1 x 4 x 27 x 2 sides
1 x 4 x 21 top center
1/2 x 2 x 21 bottom center
4 wooden dowels 3/8 x 28
Dremel
finishing nails
picture hangers
I traced a pattern from a gun rack I found online, on to my boards.

This is where my awesome husband comes in.  He cut out the pattern on the three boards.  I am a little scared of big power tools.
The don't match very well but it is hard to get them traced the same.  I then took my dremel and sanded the heck out of the boards to make them smooth.
I marked were I wanted the top and bottom boards to go then I hammered them together with two finishing nails on each side board.  I am not scared of a hammer.  You do this with the top and bottom.
This is how it looked all put together. Of course I learned fast that if you put the picture hangers on the top board before you nail them to the sides it helps.

These are my ribbons.  I put it up higher on the wall than I care for but it works.  It is at least level. Does it look awesome or what?
