Army Castle and Engineer Brigade Shoulder Patch

My husband's unit is always looking for ways to raise money for family holiday events.  So we have been doing silent auctions.  We will be having on in May (a family event) and we will be having a silent auction to raise money for the next family event.  So I made these two wall hangings.  Hopefully these will bring in some funds.

Army MP Captain Career Course quilt

My Husband is at an army school.  Every class is expected to  leave a mark on the school house at the end of the course.  This is his class mark.  I still have to put the name tags on the quilt.  But I didn't want to post everybodys name so this is the almost finish version of the quilt.

The center is the school house shoulder patch.  I love the cross pistols.  Then the star patches on each corner are the current army symbol.  I think it turned out great.  Now we just have to wait until graduation.  That is still about 2 months away giver or take a week or two.  I am too lazy to do the math right now.

I showed it to some of the class members during staff meeting today and they loved it.  I can't wait till it is done.

4th annual Blogger Quilt Festival

My Husbands Special operations quilt is the quilt that I am entering in the quilt blogger festival at  http://Amyscreativeside.com He is always wanted this quilt.  So I make it.  It takes about a week.  I spent $450 on fabric batting and fusible bias binding.  I think oh this is going on my bed right.  Fat chance.  He wants it saved for his burial.  He has decided that it will be buried with him or in his tomb, siting on the rocking chair so he can pop out and sit under his nice warm blanket.  I swear men are so weird.  Any way,  the blue, orange, black and green and orange are from the special operations flash that they would wear on there beret.

The center of the quilt is the 160th combat patch.  He earned his Airborne Wings and Air Assault Wings.  The are made by fusible bias binding. They are sharp.

Well so this could not go on my bed so I made one that could.

Armed Forces Reserve Quilt

OK. So every time I walk into the new Armed Forces Reserve Building at Fairchild Air Force Base, I get a big smile on my face.  Why?  Because of this quilt that took me 6 months to make.  Now that is done and is hanging in the building, everybody can enjoy the fruits of my labor.  This quilts is made up of the different Army Reserve and Army Guard units that will be using the build.

I am excited to be able to share this quilt with all of you out there with all you Blogger Quilt Festival lovers.

So now that I have made this patch I need to put in the building.
It figures though, some one always want to cut in at the last minute.  Sometimes it works for them and sometimes it does not.  This time it didn't.  Oh well.

It is finished!!!!!!!

I have finally finished this quilt.  I have worked on it for months.  You can see past post under custom army quilts to see the progress.  I am so pleased at how it turnred out.  It measures 63" X 63".

I will be hanging it in the reserve center this week or next.  It all depends if I can afford to frame it or not.
So what do you think about it let me know?  I also need to have a plaque made to go with it.

All I need now is a boarder

Ok I know I am missing a square but I need to call Tue and find out if it is a go for the patch.  But look at all the patches together.  I am so excited.  I am thinking to different kinds of boarders.  but I can't decide.  First since the Army colors are yellow and black that I would do a thin black than yellow than black each 3/4 inch and then a 4 to 6 inch white boarder.  Or a thin dark blue 1 1/2  inch and then 4 to 6 inch white boarder.  If any one out there has a good suggestion for me let me know.

I want to have the boarder figured out by the end of the month and the quilt done by mid Feb.  After that I want to make the patterns so if others want to make these for there soldiers they can.  Or if they want other patches made I can make up a pattern and make them too.

The new Army Reserve Retention Patch

Ok So yesterday I said that I had to replace this patch because they had the nerve to change there shoulder patch.  So here is the new Reserve Retention shoulder patch.  I do not think that they are even wearing this patch yet.  Last I heard they were still in production.  So If it is wrong I will scream.

Have a good evening.

new army patch

I am getting close to being finished with the quilt I am working on.  This is a new patch.

I got a couple of email's this week from the other units that will be using the building this quilt will be going in.  Wouldn't you know it, some of the patches I have already made will not be going to use the building and one of them had the nerve to change there shoulder patch so I am currently making a new retention patch of the Army reserve.  It use to look like this.

tomorrow I should have the new one finished.  It looks nothing like this one but is cool non the less.  So now I have two of these patches made.  I had one for my husbands quilt and one for the new reserve center quilt.
Ok so the actual block that I no for sure will be used for this quilt are as follows:

Well the top left patch is not going to be at the center

I am working on another patch that I need the right color fabric for so hopefully I can get to the fabric store some time this week and get it,  I really want this quilt to be finished I have some other project I want to start and well I hate not finishing project and starting more.  Makes to much of a mess on me sewing tables.

Husband Army career quilt

Ok I have finished some more of the shoulder patches for my husbands quilt.  I still have more to go.  but here is the sneak peak.

This is his Task force 160th patch.

This is the 9th RRC

This is 63rd RRC.

This is the 88th RRC

This is 90th RRC.  And it is upside down sorry.

I really have loved making these quilt blocks.  I have a few more and then I am going to work on the boarder.  However, I can't really finish this because my husband will have more patches with more promotions and well we have at least 8 years left in the Army.

My new Army quilt project

My husband's Army unit is supposed to move into this new Army Reserve and National Guard building on Fairchild AFB.  It is done. All except the communication was not ordered in time for instillation and so now it sits empty.  Despite that I am making a quilt to put in the center.  I have 4 unit patch squares done for this quilt.  It is starting to look really cool.   The first square on the top row is for the WA Army National Guard.  Second square on the top row is 659 Engineer Co., that is my husbands unit.  First on the bottom row is a medical unit.  The second on the bottom row a Drill Instructors unit.  I forget the name.   I am working on square number 5.  I still am trying to figure out who the other 4 units are that will be in the building so I can draw out the pattern for those units too.

I really have enjoyed making all these patterns.  I have also made patterns for all the units that my husband has been apart of in his 23 years in the Army.  They are turing out to be really cool and as I get those done I will post those too.  I need to get more fabric to finish those.  I am using mostly Moda Marbles  fabrics.  I need to find some more of the red, blue, green and gold, however, I have been to four quilt shops and I have yet to find the right shade.  I have two more local shops that I can go to and if I don't find the shade I am looking for I will have to look on line.  If you have family members in the Army and are looking for a wall hanging of their unit patch,  have them contact me at sclinequilts@earthlink.net  or post a comment.

my military quilts

OK! I have looked at blogs for the last few weeks and enjoyed a lot of the stuff that people have been doing. I wanted to join the band wagon and share my creative thoughts or just to send out the typical blah blah that is every where. I don't profess to be supper creative. I love to quilt and my favorite thing to do is come up with my own stuff. I do lots of different types of quilts or sewing projects. However my favorite lately has been creating quilts that have to do with my husbands army career. He has been in the army this coming Oct. 23 years. Quilting keeps me sane. I have 4 kids. 12 Max, 6 Alex, 3 Emma, and 3m Kira. They keep me busy and I need something to relieve stress. Quilting does this for me. Especially my own stuff.

OK. I do more than just quilt. This week I spent 3 days canning plum jam. My neighbor has a Italian plum tree. She let me have plums. I had enough to can 26 jars and still give plums away. My family better like plum jam because that is all they are getting for a while. I also like to read. I But when I do read my family loses me until the book is finished. So I read a book than wait for a month or so til I pick another book up.
