What to do with the shoes that end up in a pile at the front door

Every day when my children come home the shoes come off and get piled up at the door.  I really hate this but the couch is on one side of the door and this wall is behind the door.  The closet is on the opposite side of the room.

So I looked on Pinterest and found this example of a shoe rack.
