Moving again need advice

I will not be doing much in the craft department. We are getting ready to move and my craft room won't cut the mustard for trying to sell this house. So I started boxing up my Craft/Sewing stuff to make the room look better. As you can see it will take a long time. I have lots of stuff packed in this 10 x 10 room. That means aside from basic sewing, I will be bored because I wont be able to craft. I will try to keep up with other stuff on my blog. But if you don't hear much from me please be patient with me.

So if any one has advice on how to keep my house show quality with little kids who mess up what you have just cleaned five minutes or while you are still cleaning please let me know. I know the tricks are out there lay it on me. Please!!!!!

Ok I must be the dumbest person ever. I can not figure out Pinterest. I have a site, but nothing on it. I even have 2 followers. I waited forever to get an invite and now that I have, I can not figure this out. Can anyone help me figure this stuff out. I want to add a share button on my blog and I want to be able to add stuff to my Pinterest. Wow I need help.

For my official 200th post I would like to share my "Everything and the kitchen sink emergency bag". I needed a crazy gift for a family member this year. I really love this back pack pattern that I made for my girls for Christmas. So I made one. Then I thought that is not crazy at all, so the thought came to me "every thing plus the kitchen sink"

under the stairs food storage shelf

This is what my under the stairs storage area has looked like for months. So I made a shelf and now all the cans and boxes are neatly in place, and not all over the laundry room floor.

My area measures 30 inches tall. I made a shelf that was 15 inches so cans stacked neatly underneath. Wow I love this. Every time I need something in the back the mountain of cans will stay in place.

I might have to make one on the other side.

I also need to make a shelf unit for the upstairs closet food storage. It is full and I have been leaving bags of stuff on the floor. That is a accident waiting to happen. Yikes!

Christmas Holiday Toy soldier costume

One of my friends from church, has a son that will be in the school holiday play. He is to play a simple toy soldier. She does not sew and asked me to help make the costume for him. I was happy to do it. I love sewing.

She brought me the supplies yesterday and it was done soon after. I took pictures just incase anyone else has to make a toy soldier costume for there child. So hope you can find the rest of this post helpful.

It only takes these supplies and a red shirt.

I sandwiched three layers together to get the appellate. fabric on either side of temtex. Then satin stitch all the way around.

After I satin stitched all the way around the appellate you are ready for the trim.

Sewing the trim on these are done by zig zag stitch that way it will move easily in to the position you would like. So after you sew them you can lay them down at a 90 degree angle.

I satin stitched the applets to the shoulder about l 3/4 inch from the top.

Next I cut three 6 inch ribbons, set them in the center about 4 inches apart. I then stitched them in place. I then took 12 1/2 inch looped ribbon and made these three loop things. I am sorry I know that the real term for these are out there but I can not think of it.

At this point sew on the loops to then end of the ribbons.

Add buttons to the center of the loops.

I had extra Master Sergeant stripes so I add them for effect.

This plain shirt is transformed. It only took an hour and half. That was awesome. And she loved it.

back packs for christmas

My girls are getting these for Christmas. Shh! don't tell them. I love this pattern it is called Quilters Rucksack by Bethany Reynolds. I really like the colors of the smaller one. I wish I had more of the fabric. I have just about used it all and wow the colors together are great. The Pink one is all the strips of pink fabric that I had in my scrap box. I had a lot. I have two girls and they love pink.

I really need to raid my moms fabric stash. She lets me go shopping in her fabric stash and it has been a while. Sucks she lives so far away.

This one is for my neighbor for her birthday which was yesterday. They only take a few hours to make and could very easly be made form the stuff you already have in your home. The pattern comes in three sizes. Well back to sewing.

Yesterday I got the best birthday present of all time.

Yesterday was my birthday. I had a wonderful day. My thoughtful husband took me the 91 miles to Houston for the best quilt festival ever. The Houston International Quilt Festival. Wow. I saw some great, great stuff. I ran into someone who knows my mother from when she lived in North Carolina. She has some great stuff. Go check out her web site at Hissyfitz designs. She has the cutest quilt called Cutie Patootie my mom tested the pattern for this quilt. My youngest daughter sleeps with this blanket every night. While walking through the booths I saw this quilt on the wall and was really excited to meet the lady who designed it.
I also visited the ladies over at Craftsy. They were great too. We walked till my legs hurt. I saw great stuff.
We walked through the gallery and wow. I took only few pictures. I should have taken more. I was so tired last night I slept like a baby.
I want to share two quilts with you. The first one is amazing. It won some big prize I forget which one but wow the detail was phenomenal. I have always admired thread painting. I have only tried it once.

Sorry these two pictures are not right side up. I am having a problem with my computer. In the second picture, you can see the stitching on the boy. The quilt is said to have over 4 million stitches. It was awesome in person. I don't know that the picture does it Justice.

I thought this one was so whimsical that I just had to have a picture. It also has a lot of thread painting in it. All in all I had the best birthday ever. Thanks honey. Love you.

My Garden Halloween Carved Pumpkin

This is my purchased pumpkin. I did this one the old fashioned way. I love caving pumpkins. I still have one more pumpkin in my garden. He is small and still green. But hey I had success I got two pumpkins. Yeah!

The pumpkin Gods must be smiling on me. I now have a second pumpkin. He is small and is growing very slowly but he is growing.

This is my first pumpkin. I am not sure he will turn orange by monday, here is hoping. If you does not I will still cut him off and carve him. He will just be green. So maybe he will have to be a frankenstein, or green witch. I resorted to buying a pumpkin a couple of weeks ago, before my first pumpkin started to grow. I will have to carve that one too. As for the second growing pumpkin he will not be ready but I will get to have a fresh pumpking for thanksgiving decoration. Hoorah!

Haunted tree decoration -pumpkin update.

This year I made these cute Halloween ornaments. I decorated the entry way table with the haunted tree. Hopefully the kids will leave it alone.

I have a candy corn, mummy, ghost, vampire, Frankenstein, cat, bat, pumpkin and two witches. They turned out so cute. I can't wait to do the Thanksgiving and Christmas ones too.

The patterns for these ornaments, I got from Happy Hollow Design. You can also get the pattern for the skinny witch to the left of the haunted tree from Happy Hollow Designs. If you are familiar with fusible quick grids you will like these patterns.

The table runner I believe came out of a Fons & Porter magazine. I don't remember what year. Within the last five years I think.

This is my only pumpkin. I was pleased to get at least one. I was not sure I would get any this year. The Texas drought has been hard on the crops here.

After watching for weeks and being disappointed when a pumpkin would wither away and die. (No Pollination). I had to take matters into my own hands. May I present my first pumpkin. It is 4" x 41/2".

I also pollinated this one two.

This little guy in next. When the blossom opens up I will play match maker again.

I can't wait to see what size they get. I am sure they will last till November now. Yipee!

Second Anniversary to me giveaway

I have reached my second year of blogging. Yeah! Hot Dog! I have enjoyed all the comments even the bad ones. I have learned a few things. One that my grammar and spelling are still as bad as it ever was. I am trying, however, sometimes I forget to do spell check and read through it before I post it. I am sure you never do that right? And two, sometimes I am not crafty as I think I am but I enjoyed trying.
I have had some good and bad experiences. Most of all I enjoy getting out of my comfort zone and sharing who I am. Thank you to all who have stopped by and shared with me.

Update 12-24-11 I am sorry I had to turned off the comments. It has been over three months since this happened and well I am so sorry that I am still offending people. I have agree with alot of the comments I have received. I will agree to disagree and leave it at that. Have a great Army day and Merry Christmas.

Some one visited my blog and copied a picture of mine. It was a picture of me and my kids, in our ACU outfits. Then they posted it to a facebook page called "Overly sensitive military wives". the caption reads Just like the show except there fat. It is cruel site making fun of military wives. They blacked out our faces and put mustaches on us. The comments are very unkind.
I think the worst part is that the comments come from other military service member or family members. I reported the picture and the page.   We try to teach our children not to be bullies and to be kind to one another. Treat other how you want to be treated. Here are adults setting great example for us all.
I watched just this morning about the kid who killed himself because he was being bullied.  I would like to say thank you to the person who emailed me this morning to let me know about the page and picture. I can't say her name because I don't have her permission. However, I really appreciate her looking me up and sharing the information with me.
Ignorance is not an excuse anymore. People now know when they are saying cruel things to people or about people. They are making a choice, a bad choice I might add, but a choice. I think my favorite thing about this face book page is that is says "not everything is offensive...grow up!

Then it goes on to say "There is a difference between being a supportive military spouse and an OSMW....the opinions of the page express that. If you are going to take offense to someones comment, this isn't the page for you. It is real life. Not sugar coated."

As an update to this post: I have had great traffic to my blog and It has been great to get all the feed back. I know my gramer sucks. I never liked writing, but if I keep practicing. Maybe someday I will get it right.

OH My lovely Pumpkin!

Look at my lovely pumpkin. The first 6 pumpkins died in the heat. Now that the weather is turning cooler a pumpkin that shows promise is growing. It is the size of a quarter at best. I am seeing other new pumpkins so I will hold at hope to get six or seven this year. Hooray!!!!!!

It is getting dark out and the weather is so much more beautiful with a pumpkin growing. Fall is coming. And it rained last night Yeah!

I made popcycle stick snowmen with my kids last Christmas. I loved them and so did many of you. I have created Halloween popcycle stick characters. I have a tutorial for you, they are really easy to make by your self or with your kids. You will need:

Popcycle sticks

paint / paint brushes

super glue

buttons

Sticky back foam

wax paper for the mess

permant marker

Glue the sticks together.

Mark and pain the different sections of your character.

Frank painted.

Vampire painted. The bottom is dark purple but you can't really see that in the picture.

Painted pumpkin. Glue on buttons and sticky backed foam.

I made a storage box

I made this box. With the help of my husband. A blog that I visited last month made one like this from a pottery barn utensil box that she had seen. I really liked it. I made it bigger than she did. I loved the patterns of the wood. So I stained it to bring out the pattern.

See the inside wood pattern. It is really cool.

This is the finished product. I really wish that It could show you all the cool knots and patterns of the wood. It is really cool.

Now I just have to put a foam pad on the bottom. I have two nails that are sticking out just enough that it would scratch the surface of what ever I put it on. After finishing this project I informed my husband I want a scroll saw. He just laughed. Then he took me over to Lowes and we look at scroll saws so we can get a feel for what I want to buy. I am thinking Christmas is the time to buy. Prices are low right? I am not sure I can wait for fathers day.

Can you see my pumpkins. I have two. I had three but it is not going to make it, the little guy fell off.

no pumpkins on my pumpkin vine and a midnight guest

To start these little creatures live around our house. I found these at midnight on the wall by my front door. I found four. I made my family crazy yesterday when I told them that a smaller lizard ran under my bed. They do not believe me but no joke I have one in my room. I am not sure how it go in there but well it is there none the less.

And here is the updated pictures of my pumpkin plants. I am not seeing any pumpkins yet. but you can tell it is getting bigger.

Well I have to say I had a better picture of this but when I went to turn it clockwise it hid the picture and now I can see it in the slide show, but I can not edit or use it. This really sucks. I also had a good picture of the fourth lizard on a different wall last night it is also hidden. Does anyone know how to get it back? I can't figure it out.

So what are ya doing? "Just hanging around." That is what I can imagine they are saying to each other.

Can you have a hummingbird as a pet?

Out side we have a hummingbird feeder and just in the last few days we have had a lot of activity.

This guy is one of three birds that come to this feeder. He is the most protective bird I have ever seen. He chases off other hummingbirds and sits on the tree and watches. It is funny to watch. I can stand outside and they will still come and visit the feeder. They will dive past you which is fun to watch. Nobody has been hit yet but they are really fast. I wish we could keep them. Oh well. I have a better picture on video of him. I can't figure out how to get the video to work. so you are stuck with this picture.

This is my pumpkin plants. Even though it is hot they seem to be doing OK. No Pumpkins yet but I am hopeful.

I did plant some more of the giant Max pumpkins because they died.

But now I have a problem something is eating the leaves. I have fire ants that have taken up residence. I put stuff down on the mound to get then to go away.

The rain that we got yesterday in Texas has perked up my plant. The leaves are standing tall. I cant wait. I need pumpkins. Go baby make momma proud.

First day of school

We have two first's on this first day of school. This is my oldest child he started High School today.

This is my third child she started Pre school today. This was her first day of public school and she got to ride the bus home from school she was in heaven.

This is my second child he started second grade. He is my character one minute you get this reaction. A scowl.

Next he is trying to kiss up. I love him.

She was so cute about school today. She was ready to go hours before it was time. She had a great day!

new shelves for my small stock pile

My kids think I am crazy because I never leave the house with out my "coupon binder". I have gotten so many "coupon scores" that I have run out of places to put them. So I have started a stock pile, or as some of you might know it as a Year supply or food storage. I needed more shelves in my closet. I did these two shelves all by my self. I am so proud of my self.

After I put in the support then I filled the shelves with my stuff that I got for free or less than a dollar.

I need to count my tooth paste It looks like a lot.

I love free deodorant.

I don't have pictures of my laundry soap and the dish washing soap or the cereal. sorry I didn't think of that until after I started this. I keep stuff all over the house. Which reminds me my school supplies have quadrupled since my last post of them. I didn't take pictures of that either. Just take my word or it or not.

Help! My pumpkins are suffering

Wow I am sure that you have seen the news on how the heat wave is causing a problem. Well it is causing my pumpkin plants to burn.

This plant is my best and is not what I would expect of it for the time it has been in the ground.

This plant is my next biggest and it is not doing any better.

This one is the last of my surviving pumpkin plants. Sad huh? I water everyday. Sometimes twice. I am not sure they are going to produce any actual pumpkins. I have lots of buds and well nothing. Help me?! any helpful advise would be great. I can only hope that the Texas heat wave will pass and the rain will come and save my plants.

Happy Fourth of July everybody.

This is my son & my husband. Recently my son decided he wanted to be part of civil air patrol. Civil air patrol is part of the Air Force. It was created during WWII. They were used for home land security back in the day. They would watch for plane and subs of the east and west coast of this great country. My husband was in civil air patrol when he was our sons age. So together they have join this great organization. My husband is a Senior member my son a cadet. They look great in uniform don't they. I do have to say, "Like father like son".

Let us all remember those in uniform serving for our freedom here and abroad. They are great men and women.

Summer kraziness

I am so sorry I have not blogged that much this summer. I have been working on lots of things. However I don't know how interesting they might be. I have three major things I am doing:

I built this garden box. I planted pumpkins and they sat in my window sill until this box was finished.

They finally are in the ground.

I built a garden box to grow pumpkins for my kids for Halloween. I am so excited. I hope to update my growth on this blog. It has been two weeks since I put them in the ground and they are not dead. Wish me luck!

Next I am working with the local paper in my area developing coupon workshops. I am really excited about this.

And last I have a lot a genealogy to retype. I lost all my stuff on my old computer when it crashed. Over 3000 names. Yikes! My fingers are going to be tired. At least I have most of it on hard copies. I need to have family names ready for my teenager to do baptisms in Sept when the youth go to the Houston Temple.

Super easy Bling hangers

I needed a place to put my necklaces. Cramming them in a box was just tangling them. So I made these. They were really easy. I bought a 24 X 2 board cut in half. I painted one pink (that one was for the girls stuff) then sprayed with a clear coat paint. Put the picture hangers on the back. Then the cup hooks. Super easy right.

Now I was informed by my 4 year old that she needed stuff on ever hook. Oops! I created a monster I think.

It is summer and my blooms are all gone !

The summer is here in TX and my flowers seem to be disappearing. I took these pictures in May. I have one still in bloom but all the rest are not. Do they only make one flower.

4th of July banner

I have not made any banners lately. I had to make one. This is my fourth of July banner.

I made the liberty bell, and uncle sam hat.

This is my favorite.

We round the last two are lady libertys torch, and a fire cracker. This is a great holiday that well I love to watch the fire works dont you. A ribbon rack for me

I wanted my own ribbon rack. With my husbands help, this is how I did it. First I bought a couple of boards from Lowe's.

I had them cut 1 x 4 x 27 x 2 sides

1 x 4 x 21 top center

1/2 x 2 x 21 bottom center

4 wooden dowels 3/8 x 28

Dremel

picture hangers

I traced a pattern from a gun rack I found online, on to my boards.

This is where my awesome husband comes in. He cut out the pattern on the three boards. I am a little scared of big power tools.

The don't match very well but it is hard to get them traced the same. I then took my dremel and sanded the heck out of the boards to make them smooth.

I marked were I wanted the top and bottom boards to go then I hammered them together with two finishing nails on each side board. I am not scared of a hammer. You do this with the top and bottom.

This is how it looked all put together. Of course I learned fast that if you put the picture hangers on the top board before you nail them to the sides it helps.

These are my ribbons. I put it up higher on the wall than I care for but it works. It is at least level. Does it look awesome or what?

Beauty among thorns

In my neighbors rose bush we found this nest with robin eggs.

I had to run home and get my camera. I thought is was so cool to find something so beautiful living in a rose bush. I know roses are beautiful. But the thorns you would think would keep out anything right? Well guess again.

A few days later however when I went back to see the progress. The nest was empty. I guess we bothered the mom so she found a new home. I felt fortunate to get these great pictures before mommy bird left for a new home.

I have been working on a ribbon rack. However it means cutting wood. I am not that sure of my self with wood tools. So it is taking me forever to do. My new HP computer

I got my new computer in the mail yesterday. It is a HP Pavilion something something entertainment PC. I am so not that computer smart. I am fumbling my way through the process of getting to know this thing. I like it don't get me wrong, but there is no manual to refer too. It is scary to say the least. I did however manage to download my printer software on line because I could not locate the disk. Par for course. I can always find every thing but what I am looking for when it comes to the computer software department. I need my own personal IT person. Maybe my old dinosaur of a computer would still be running if I had my own IT guy.
Now I need to locate the software for my camera so I can down load this weeks adventure at the Children's Barnyard put on by the Texas A&M University. I was simple. My almost two year old could not get enough of the baby chicks. Every time she caught one it peeped loudly. She has some grip. I will get those photos up soon I hope.
Have a great spring day. Well try to if you are in any of the bad weather areas of the country. We got nothing. We need the rain that everybody else is getting. TX is a big place and we never get anything. I am grateful. I am not really complaining but we really could use the rain. Bye.

It was a hard crash

Over the weekend something terrible happened. My computer crashed. ~~#$%^~~ Hum! I am sad. Thankfully we purchased a external drive the week before and I removed all my photos and put it on the external hard drive. The only thing that is really important, that I am sad about, is that I can't retrieve all my addresses of all my friends and family. Now that really sucks. I don't have a old fashion address book. Can you say duh! Or to quote charlie sheen "Not winning"

Computers are great they hold tons of information. It is all at your finger tips. However, it does give you a false sense of security. It is going to be difficult to get some of these addresses because the phone numbers where also lost. Email address as well. What to do? I can try facebook and ask my friends to send the info. Yet some of those friends are not on facebook. Well You know I am going right out to get the old fashion phone book today.

I did order a new computer on "aafees". Yeah no sales tax. I just have to be patient for it to get here. In the mean time I am using my husbands computer. Thank you Hubby. I love you.

I should not be too sad about the computer it was 6 years old and very slow. Now out with the old and in with the new and the old fashion phone book. Bye.

Church Humanitarian Service Quilt

Tonight at church they are having the birthday celebration of the Relief society. All this month our ward has been doing service project that will benefit our community. I was asked to help in making a quilt that will be donated to the church humanitarian services to go to people of Japan.

I had lots of fabric left over from my girls dresses. The green and pink flower fabric. Then we purchased the rest of the fabric. I cut the squares, designed the quilt and then we go to gether to make the quilt.

We finished and it was taken to where ever it goes to get to Salt Lake to be sent to Japan. It turned out really nice. I had fun showing new quilters how to do quilt.

JR ACU skirt

I made an ACU skirt for myself a few weeks back. Well I had two pieces left over. My daughter wanted a skirt, so I used the cut off legs and made her one too.

She loves to pose.

The cut off legs have knee pockets for knee pads which make great pockets.

I used the drawstring bottom to make the elastic waist band. I just attached the elastic to the draw string and pulled it through. Wow that was the easies waist band ever. OK so I cheated. I was just being resourceful. The side pockets were upside down so I unpicked and then put them back on rightside up. She loves it and it was the easiest skirt I ever made. Now we match and she loves that too.

Last year when my CA drivers license was about to expire, I call the state DMV to see if I could renew my licence online. I have renewed this way before, However, they have a limit on how many times you can do this. I was told I had to come in to the DMV and renew in person. Well as it happened we are living in TX which makes it difficult to just pop into the DMV and do this. As my husband is in the military and his home of record is CA, his licence is good indefinitely until he is able to return back to CA to update his licence. So I thought that they would have a policy in place for dependents of active military members. I thought wrong.

A few years ago the federal government changed the statue for dependent spouses to be able to stay residents of the home of record of the active duty military member. That is great but that doesn't help if you still want to vote in the state of your home of record and can't get a licence there too. I was upset I couldn't get my license renewed in CA so my only option was to go to DPS in TX and get a new drivers licence. My husband and I call the local State representatives to inquire about this problem. They listened to our complaint and agreed with are problem. Dependent spouses of active duty service members should have the same priviage of having an indefinate license until they are able to return back to the state to update there license.

At the time we were told that it was to late in the year to do any thing about it but the next calender year they would work on it. A few months went by and we had quite forgotten about it. Then in Jan we got a call from the office of the state representative who took on the situation to fix the problem. I am happy to say that for the last 8 months the local representatives have been working on a solution to this problem. We have gotten periodic email updating us on the progess of the bill.

Today we go an email saying that the bill will be heard today on the floor in the state senate. I am really excited. I hope that they agree to change the state law.

This will not help me because I already surrendered my CA license, But it will help others that have had this problem or are in the future going to have this problem.

What makes it really exciting to us is that our local reprentatives heard and acted on this. A lot of times it is really disappointing because they listen nod and "say I see". We all know that means "and this effects me how" and "I really don't care, thank you for your call or inquirey."

Well I just want to say thank you to the State reps out there that take on the local causes and make it there own. That is why we put them there and that is why we let them stay.

Living room makeover

I spent the last week painting my living room , kitchen and dinning room. these first two pictures are the before walls. I am sorry I didnt take a picture until I had started taping the walls, but you get the idea.

The tile is white and the walls were very light but not quite white.

My husband said not to dark so I picked this color from Lowes. It is a leather color. I tured out so cool.

The hardest part so far has been around the windows.

The look now of the room has been described as warm and inviting. I am so pleased with the end result.

I must admit I am not the best painter. I have made mistakes. But I did it all by my self. I am still painting my staircase. I need a ladder. I cant reach all the way to the top. But I am so happy. We also got a light tan rug and a brand new screen door this week. I helped my husband do the door and it was a bear. But it also looks beautiful.

Military advice from a wife that has been in for awhile

Military advice from a wife that has been in for awhile.

Recently I have come across family members and spouses that are new to military life or have been in for a short while and are not sure they want to continue. I have given some of my simple advice in hopes that it would make them successful in the journey of the average military family.

So here is my advice:

1. The Army or Military is what you make of it. Your success is determined by how well you can adapt to the life style. It is not really as hard as it sound. If you can learn to be flexable that is 70% of adapting. The other 30% is getting involved in the local support groups, taking Army Family Team Building training or the sister service equivalant, and have a good attitude. So many adventures await you if you can do this.

2. If you make it in the service 10 year stay until 20. Just put it in your head and don't waver. So many people that we have met that got out after 8 to 12 years regret getting out. You end up starting all over and you get no retirement for all the hard work. What a waist. My husband will crossover 26 years this Oct. I personally will not let him get out because I like the life style and I like moving around. But it is not what we need to do right now so we are still going strong.

3. Get involved! Get involved! Get involved! Every service has support groups, club and Classes that will help you learn what is going on in the life of you service member. You are not alone and you should not isolate yourself because you have something valuable to share with others. They need you just as much as you need them. You will creat lasting friendship that will last forever.

4. Live on base as much as possible. I know that is hard sometimes. If you are new to the service and you don't have transportation you will feel isolated and you will not benefit from the military family community. It helps when you neighbors can relate to your situations. This is most especially benifical when deployement time comes, and it does come.

5. Lastly, enjoy every minute of you time in the military. So many possibilities await you. I know for those of you how are struggling with military life you are cursing my out about enjoying the military. Trust me it is really not that bad, if you look around and see what is really going on, you will be able to find the blessing in what you are sacrificing. Now stop and smell the roses. They are beautiful.

I hope at least I can help one fellow blogger out there with my simple Army advice. Good luck out their you are amazing for what you do. The cream of the crop with a cherry on top.

on a side note. does any one know why I can't get the spell check to work? I know I have words miss spelled and it won't light up to help me change it. Oh well please excuse my grammer.

Spring dresses

I have been busy sewing the last few weeks. I made these dresses.

This one is for my 20 month.

This one is for my four year old. ( she picked out the fabric)

This pattern is a Simplicity pattern from Project Runway. It is very cute. However, see that skirt band? I did not follow the pattern it was totally screwed up it would not lay flat and they had you put it on backwards. So I had to make it the way I like to put on skirt bands. After that it worked out just fine.

I also sewed curtain for my neighbor and sleeves in a shirt for a lady from church. I kept busy I also found time to vacuum the floor in the sewing room. Need to do that for a while.

ACU shirt to purse redo

Last week I made a ACU skirt out of my husband old ACU Pants. This week I had to have a matching purse. I made this out of his old ACU shirt. I found this cool Army fabric in Spokane WA at the quilts show and decided this is the project to use it with.

This is my skirt.

See how nicely the purse will match the skirt.

I can't really tell you how I made this. I confess I did not use a conventional pattern. I basically unpicked the entire shirt and then reassembled it. I did most of the steps backwards. for example I put the front and back pieces and zipper in to match the front of what the shirt actually looks like first before I put the sides together. Then I put the lining pieces in one at a time. Usually you would make the lining and then sew it to the purse. I totally didn't do that either. Then I had it half way assembled and decided I had to have the handle in before I could sew the rest together. I was not sure it would all come together. But funny it did and their is only one mistake and unless you know what to look for you will never find it. The next few pictures are of the inside.

I love pockets. Every purse that I have made I have tried to put in as many pockets as I can.

This is just a view inside from the outside.

This Zipper is like the way you would see the ACU shirt except I put the army fabric under neath. Cool huh! So when you close the purse it looks like the front of the ACU shirt, in a manner of speaking. The other pocket on the front is from the left over from the pants. It is bigger than I planned, but since I didn't plan very well when making this I guess It is OK.

St. Patty day banner

I love this one. This now makes 5 different banners that I have done. They are Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines. To see them click on the holiday. However stay tune. I have made the Easter banner. I will wait till after St. Patty day to post it. It is a little early.

I am all about the rain bow and pot of gold. I think I should have put them next to each other now that I look at them. What is the Irish symbol called. I love it but I can never remember what it is called?

His and Hers ACU's

These are my Husbands work pants for the Army. They are called ACU's. I like the feel of the ACU's. I thought what would they look like as a skirt. You know so they would look more feminine.

Is this much more feminine. To make this I:

So I took a pair that had frayed ends and unpicked the inseam. Laid it out and cut the legs off below the knee.

I marked the butt. Sewed straight down making sure to match the butt seam. Then sewed it again down the front a quarter of in inch from first stitch.

With the extra material I laid it under the front opening and pin it to the patch. Then I sewed down both sides twice like the back seam. then I finished the raw edges off. I hemmed the bottom and "walla"

This is the back. See the oval that is the butt patch of the ACU's make this cool pattern.

I Love but hate "Ducky"! When she is lost. The world comes to an end. Yesterday half of my kids stayed home from church because we have had illness left and right at our house. My son calls during the lesson I am giving "We can't find Ducky?" I asked him to look in all the usual places. Of course if you have one of these they are not always in the usual places.

Trip to Hobby Lobby for girls room redo

Yesterday my girls and I went to Hobby Lobby to find pinks stuff to decorate the new room. We found some stuff.

We found these flowers in the Easter decor and the butterfly in the summer stuff.

These light switch plates are my favorite. I love changing these they make a small but huge difference.

This says it all. My four year old picked this out.

I took scrapbook paper and made a new boarder.

The hanging stuff is all over but after I got them up my four year old ask for me to get some more. So looks like I will be going to Hobby Lobby sooner than later. I am not done. I still need to put up the girls initials we made yesterday, get the curtains and I want to get a shelf to put some stuff on and well you know you could go crazy with stuff. I am enjoying this.

I did this project with my 4 year old yesterday. She loves doing project. This project is going up in her newly painted pink and white bedroom.

The next few pictures show you how we did the initials. Kind of like a tutorial, but without all descriptions. I think the pictures are self explanatory. OK so I am being lazy.

She had to have a little bling on the initial which I would not have done, but she is four and it was her initial.

Also today I was driving around my neighborhood and found these finds as a result of the wind damaged fences from last weeks winter storm.

I see many project in this. Especially since I ordered my Valspar free paint sample yesterday. Yepee! My husband is going to think I am crazy. Have a great day.

Speech class - How to make a chocolate cake by my son

My son is in 8th grade and they have to have a speech class. He had to do a how to speech today. So last night he made a chocolate cake from scratch.

He used a the Betty Crocker Book.

Add the eggs.

Mix all the ingredients.

Pour in the pan.

Bake.

Decorate.

I am so proud of him. He took the ingredients to school and made a cake in front of them. I picked up the batter after his class and then bake a second cake. So we get to enjoy his chocolate cake tonight after dinner. Fun us. I didn't make it Yeah!

I don't know if you will laugh about this but I did. Last night my 18m old had a cupcake and had chocolate all over her face, hair etc.

Isn't she so cute. I totally took this picture before the .... Well anyway. I put her in the tub and let her waste some time until she had to go to bed. She loves to splash and play in the tub. I was sitting on the chair in the bathroom blogging. Yeah I know I am addicted! When all of the sudden she started her "oh! oh! oh! oh! no! no! oh! oh! oh!" thing that she does when something she doesn't like happens. I looked at her she was holding her face shaking her head. So I looked into the tub. There was a whole lot of chocolate substance in the bath. Way more than when she got in the tub. You all know what substance I am talking about. OH! did I laugh. Well what can you do? Laugh cry it is all the same. I just took her out. Emptied the tub. Cleaned the tub. Filled the tub washed her and then dressed her and put her to bed. Yes it is gross. But it has not been the first time this has happened to me. I am sure it will not be the last.

Kids are awesome aren't they?

Wind Wind What Have You Done

So this week the wind was screaming out side. Just like it is doing right now out side. Except I don't know the wind speed now, but earlier this week we had gust at 50 - 60 miles an hour. It wreaked havoc in the neighborhood. This is what it did at our house.

The force of the wind laid it flat to the ground. look at the 90 degree angle at the ground.

We woke up to crashing winds and the sound like our house was blowing away. My hubby looked out side to find the flag pole on the ground. This made us really sad. But it could have been worse. Many homes in the neighborhood are repairing large sections of fence that blew over. Hopefully they do a good job fixing the fence, because is sounds fearce out there.

Girls room redo

My daughter has begged us to paint her room pink. We finally did this this weekend. I really feel bad that I don't have a before picture. The room before was just plain egg shell. Basically the ceiling is the color it used to be. Now you can see it is Pink and White. I love how it turned out. We know need to add the curtain and I am going to get some vinyl initials. Here are some of the random pictures I do have to share. Enjoy I know my daughter is.

Disturbed Frogs Hibernation

Yesterday It was somewhat warm here in TX. So I decided to pull out the 5 hawthorn bushes in my front yard to get ready to plant new stuff. I found these two sleeping guys in the holes left after pulling out the bushes.

I thought they where dead. I was sad. Then when I picked one up I realized he was just sleeping. They had been hibernating here. I don't know how long but the kids got lots of laughs and screams. Mostly my daughter screamed all the way down the street. The frog moved closer to her and wow screams and screams. I was videoing the frog and caught her scream when he moved but I wish I had her in the frame because I would have totally sent it to AFV we love that show on Sunday nights.

I love that frogs hold still because I got some really good pictures. I even got my camera to work great. Well the video was blurry but the pictures are cool. This morning I could only find one of the frogs. Last night I covered him up alittle with the bark and dirt and He was still there sleeping away this morning. I couldn't see the second one last night so I don't know if he burrowed his way back into the ground or hopped away. OH! well I can not wait for spring. I have "Wanttoplantitis" Is this a word. Well today it is. Bye Y'all!

LDS Primary New Testament Lesson # 5 - The Childhood of Jesus Christ

I was recently called as the valiant 8 teacher in my ward at church. Last week I was searching around sugardoodle.net for some help. I found a powerpoint presentation for lesson #4. I liked it my kids liked it and so I made my own for this weeks lesson #5. I don't know how to upload the slides on this post. The only thing I could come up with is to add it to Scribd.com and have you go and look at it. I don't know if it is any good. But that is OK with me. Way Cute Valentine's Banner

So the season of love is just around the corner. Hopefully you fill like this with your spouse all year round. However, since they dedicate a whole day to it I had to make a banner. I must apologise for the lighting or the camera or the operator the pictures are terrible.

Together they make a very cute valentines banner.
